Job Description:
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a healthcare professional who provides essential support to patients by assisting with their daily living activities and ensuring their comfort and well-being. Working under the supervision of registered nurses or licensed practical nurses, CNAs play a crucial role in patient care in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and home health environments. They are responsible for helping patients with basic needs, monitoring their health, and offering emotional support. CNAs contribute significantly to the overall care team by promoting patient safety, comfort, and quality of life.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with daily activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Help patients with mobility, including transferring from bed to chair, walking, and repositioning.
- Monitor and record patients’ vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Assist with basic medical tasks, such as changing dressings and applying prescribed treatments.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, ensuring the room is tidy and free of hazards.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must complete a state-approved CNA training program, which includes both classroom instruction and clinical practice.
- Must pass a competency exam, which tests both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
- CNAs must renew their certification every two years by meeting continuing education requirements and maintaining competency in patient care.
